Match Finder Upgrades

You may have noticed some changes to the GameBattles Match Finder recently. Our development team has made a few minor upgrades to the Match Finder to help ensure that the matchmaking process is carried out as quickly and efficiently as possible. Please take a moment to read about the changes we’ve made below so that you have a better understanding of how the Match Finder works before you start looking for a match.

1. Perhaps the most important change is the removal of “match difficulty” as a filter for finding matches. Many users and teams with high difficulty levels were unable to find matches in a timely fashion because potential opponents instead played teams with a lower difficulty level. This was never the intention of the difficulty level filter, and frankly it has caused more problems than it has prevented. Our team has agreed that the integrity of a “blind” match was indeed questioned when revealing the difficulty of teams posted on the finder, and therefore we have removed the column entirely.

2. Our second change comes as a result of the recent changes to our Premium Match policy. Put simply, the new “Premium Match” column will signal whether or not a posted match will be a “Premium Match” should you choose accept it. To determine this, the site detects whether your team and the team posted on the Match Finder are Premium Teams. If both are, then it will be considered a Premium Match. If only one, or neither, of the teams are Premium Teams, it will count as a regular match.

3. The final major change deals with the “Match Type” option you must select when posting on the Match Finder. If you are a Premium Team, the default option will be to “force” a Premium Match – in other words, only other Premium Teams will be able to accept your challenge. Non Premium Teams will not be able to, once again reflecting our new Premium Match policy. Of course, you can also choose to allow all teams to accept your match, in which case any team on the ladder can accept your match post.

All in all, we hope and expect that these changes will improve the match finding experience as a whole and make it easier for users to promptly find the match they’re looking for. At the same time, these upgrades will help prevent delays in finding a match by stopping players or teams from “avoiding” teams with a higher difficulty rating.

Thanks for taking the time to read about these recent changes. Good luck, and happy gaming!
