With the Winter 2009 Season quickly coming to a close, players and teams on the Road Runner Super Smash Bros Brawl Arena are starting to feel the pressure. March 31st marks the end of another hotly contested regular season and the beginning of the true do-or-die playoff tournament. Some are anxiously awaiting the start of the playoffs -- others are desperately trying to get some wins under their belts to qualify. Who's going to take home the $7500?
D4BA still sits atop the Singles Ladder with a solid record of 162 wins and just 15 losses. His 5,621 XP has essentially guaranteed him a #1 seed in the playoff tournament, as he leads 2nd place
Fatal X by more than 1500 XP. However, the rest of the field is yet to be determined. Second place through twentieth is separated by a mere 1000 XP, and every time a match is played the whole puzzle gets shaken up. However, it's the teams below #32
NoNess that need to crank up the intensity. Only the top 32 teams will qualify, meaning if the tournament started today, players such as
Fliphopper (54-8),
The Rebellion (38-4),
BarDull1 (39-2), and
Rain (37-0) would all be left out.
On the Doubles Ladder,
Instagib has added another win to their streak, which now totals at 28 straight. At 38-2, they have a decent grip on first place for now. Second place
Big and Mean are only 500 XP behind, but it appears that they (as well as most other top 10 teams) have secured a birth in the playoffs and are simply awaiting the start of the tournament. Just like the Singles Ladder, the top 32 teams will make the playoffs; so it's really the bottom half of the ladder that will be heating up in the following weeks.
PK Bros (12-4) currently hold the final playoff spot, but only have a cushion of about 80 XP. Forty-first ranked
Channel 4 News Team (5-1),
Team Clutch (6-0), and
OM NOM NOM (8-2) are just a few of the teams that will be looking to leap ahead of PK Bros. Just to give you an idea of how close the ladder is: only slightly more than 300 XP separates 32nd place from 50th.
Two weeks. That's what remains of the Winter 2009 regular season. So much is yet to be decided on both the Singles and Doubles ladders, but one thing is for certain: now is the time for these players and teams to perform to the peak of their abilities. Otherwise, they could be missing out on some serious cash. Two weeks. Two weeks...
