The Super Smash Bro's Brawl Winter 2009 Playoffs, sponsored by Road Runner High Speed Internet, kick off this week, meaning in just about a month we will be announcing a champion. However, the path to the championship won't be easy for any team -- 32 singles players and 32 doubles teams will be competing for their respective titles. Let's take a quick look at the bracket.
Taking the #1 seed into the Singles Playoff Tournament is none other than
d4Ba. D4Ba has held the #1 spot for most of the season, and with a record of 162 wins to just 15 losses, it's well deserved. His first opponent will be the #32 seeded
Waymas, whose 71-9 record can't be ignored.
Fatal X (159-18), the #2 seed, will face
C0reStory in the first round. C0reStory finished the season with 184 wins to 51 losses and is looking to start the tournament with an upset. Elite SSBB veterans
JudgeMeow and
Fliphopper will also be in action, against
Nabster and
Boku Boku, respectively.
The Doubles Playoff Tournament is filled with top notch teams, and truly anybody could walk away with the championship when it's all said and done.
Instagib, 44-3 and the #1 seed in the tournament, will play
Twilight's Eternity in the first round. It presents a great opportunity for the underdog Twilight's Eternity to prove themselves by knocking off the #1 seed, but Instagib is highly favored to win.
Big and Mean is in a similar boat and are under a little extra pressure. They are expected to beat
Day n Nite, but as anyone will tell you, "don't count your eggs before they hatch."
Sword Storm (28-2, #3) will also be a favorite throughout the tournament, but must first deal with #30
Team Payload.
WeFlyHigh (62-17, #4) will battle
You Got Peachen Up for a ticket to the next round.
Road Runner High Speed Internet and GameBattles wish all of those who are competing the best of luck. Also, tons of thanks to the rest of you who battled all season and helped us move towards another incredible playoff season. Check back next week for another playoff update!
