Welcome to the latest Super Smash Bro's Brawl Winter 2009 Playoff Update, brought to you by Road Runner High Speed Internet. Playtime is over, folks! The first semi-final matchup for both the Singles and Doubles Ladders will be played Wednesday, April 29th. The winner from each ladder will earn themselves a spot in the Championship match and await the winner of the Losers Bracket. Here's a quick preview of the week ahead:

We'll start with the Singles Ladder. Last week's update made one thing very clear: nothing is a sure thing. The trend of upsets and unpredictability continued last Wednesday as the #20 seeded TheSnakeOfCanada defeated the #24 seed The Pikmin Army 2-0 to advance to the semi final match. His opponent? None other than dabuz, the #18 seed and SSBB veteran who defeated #3 New Haircut in a 2-0 win. Until the defeat, New Haircut had been the highest ranked player remaining in the Winner's bracket. The semi-final match is sure to be a classic. TheSnakeOfCanada finished the Regular Season with 36 wins and only 1 loss, and obviously has not yet suffered a playoff defeat. Dabuz finished with 45 wins, also losing just 1 time.

The Doubles Ladder was also witness to two incredible match-ups last week. WeFlyHigh, the #4 seed, defeated the #8 seed Swagger Jaggers by a score of 2-1 to secure a spot in the semi finals. Swagger Jaggers will now have to battle their way through the loser's bracket if they want another shot. The other semi-finalist will be #15 First Place, who advanced with a 2-0 win over #6 please dont judge hunger. First Place played just 11 matches in the Winter Season, but won them all. WeFlyHigh won 62 battles, losing just 17 times in a total of 79 matches. Both teams have proved throughout the playoffs that they are deserving champions -- now it's time to see who can come out on top!

Again, both of our semi-final match-ups between First Place and WeFlyHigh, and TheSnakeOfCanada and dabuz, will be played this Wednesday. The losers of these matches will fall into the loser's bracket, where they'll have to win at least one more match to get another shot. Keep your eyes on the tournament brackets, and be sure to check back next week for another update on the action!
