Welcome to another Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 GameStop International Tournament update! We hope everyone enjoyed the holidays, but now it's back to business -- we've got a lot to cover. The tournament is down to just 20 total teams in both brackets (North America & Europe), and only a few weeks remain before this tournament comes to an end! Here's how the playoff tournament is shaping up.
Starting on the North America bracket, it's the #1 seed Team
FeaR who have steadily advanced, winning by 3-0 shutouts round after round in this tournament. They're showing the world why they own the #1 seed, and why they'll one day be considered one of the best Call of Duty teams in GameBattles history. Their opponent in the upcoming round is the #208 seed
nK, who finished the regular season just 3-0 but have surprised many so far. Among other top teams still alive are #3
Art of Execution, #5
XPL, #10
Head Trauma, and #11
Advanced. Though there's certainly always room for upsets, it seems inevitable that it will be one of the above teams meeting Team FeaR in the finals.
Now, let's move on to the European Bracket, where things are a little closer to wrapping up. Only four teams remain alive, and after tonight we will know who will be competing in the European Finals.
Team Coolermaster, who have led the way seemingly all season long, have so far cruised through the competition. However, now they'll face maybe their toughest opponent yet: #13
Team Imperial. Imperial finished exhibition play with a 9-2 record and have yet to be challenged in the playoffs. However, one of their two regular-season losses was to none other than Team Coolermaster. In the other semi-final match-up, cinderella takes the main stage as #78
eMpathy takes on #23
VALIDUS.4D. Empathy went just 2-4 during the season, while VALIDUS finished 6-3. It's essentially a toss-up between these two, but the winner will have the opportunity of a lifetime to grab the European championship!
By this time next week, we'll know our European representative, and by mid-January the International Finals will be set! Until then, good luck to the teams competing. Keep that $10,000 prize pool in mind and get the job done! Check back next week for another update!
